LOUTH AC WEEKLY REPORT – 27th January 2019

Louth AC took part in 2 contrasting events over the weekend in Yorkshire with 3 members at the North of England Cross Country Championships in Pontefract, West Yorkshire on Saturday, while 4 other members took part on Sunday in the annual Ferriby 10 mile road race which starts and finishes in Skidby, East Riding of Yorkshire.

North of England Cross Country Championships – Saturday 26th January 2019 The weather conditions were good, not cold, with a light breeze. With the exception of two small muddy sections the course was good ground for racing. In the Senior Women’s race Kerry Stainton (Veteran 45) ran an excellent race finishing 182nd out of 376 runners in a time of 37 mins 57 secs. Jane Cope (Veteran 50) ran a good race to finish 338th in a time of 46 mins 34 secs. In the Under 15 Girls Evie Brooks ran a competitive race finishing 44th out of 196 runners in a time of 15 mins 10 secs.

Ferriby 10 mile road race – Sunday 27th January 2019 This is a major race on the racing calendar which attracts all standards of runners across the region. With a new start time by an hour to 9.00 am it was an early start on a bitterly cold morning with the first half of the race runners faced a strong headwind. There were 743 finishers. Kevin Wallis (Male Veteran 55) finished 165th and 8th out of 49 in his age category in 1 hour 12 mins 58 secs. Shirley Willett (Female Veteran 50) finished 500th and 6th out of 22 in her age category in 1 hour 30 mins 3 secs. Clare Koslow (Female Veteran 45) finished 524th and 27th out of 58 in her age category in 1 hour 31 mins 5 secs. The performance of the weekend came from Ruth Edison (Female Veteran 45) who had a brilliant run in the Ferriby 10 mile, smashing her PB by a massive 3 minutes 3 seconds. She ran a controlled race and took the first mile steady until she got into her racing. Ruth finished 268th and 8th out of 58 in her age category in a superb time of 1 hour 18 mins 27 secs
