Humberside Track & Field League 2018 Meeting 1 King George V Stadium Grimsby    – Saturday 7th April 2018

What a fantastic start to the 2018 season for the 14 members that travelled to Grimsby for the first of the Humberside League series. It was a successful meeting with lovely conditions for racing and the rain managed to hold off for the track events.

There were some superb performances by all athletes with whom many moving up to a new group trying out longer and different type of events for the first time and some were rewarded with PBs and a top 3 finish.

Under 17 Men

Caleb Stephenson, in a new age group, front running in the 800m ran an excellent race to win in 2 min 10.0 just outside his PB of 2 min 09.6.

Under 15 Boys

Both Taran Dhami and Matthew Spendlove ran competitive races for the first time over the distances. Taran was a clear winner in the 300m with a time of 45.5.  Matthew ran the longer distance of 3000m in a superb time of 10 min 34.0 finishing second in a hard fought battle with the winner from Barton & District AC who finished in 10.33.3.

Under 13 Boys

Declan Templeton ran 2 superb races. He won Heat 2 of the 200m in a new PB of 32.3 and with not very much recovery between the events he competed in the 1200m for the first time.  With tired legs from his previous race he worked hard and determined to maintain the 2nd position finished in 4 min 29.5 holding off the fast approaching athlete from Cleethorpes AC.  Declan also did the Long Jump finishing 13th in 2m 60.

Senior/Veteran Women

Betty Gash ran a controlled race in the 3000m finishing second Veteran in a new PB by 18 seconds in 13 min 42.3. Karen Moulding competed in the Hammer finished 2nd with a throw of  14m 70 and the 75m Hurdles for the first time in a good run finishing in first place in 20.4.

Under 17 Women

New Age Group for both Isabelle Dhami and Hannah Reid. Isabelle was a clear winner in the 1500m with a time of 5 min 56.8 and finished 5th in the Long jump in 3 min 38.  Hannah worked and battled hard in the 3000m and was rewarded with a win in 11 min 47.0.

Under 15 Girls

New Age Group for Amelia-Jay Morley, Evie Brooks and Sophie Henderson. Amelia-Jay (Millie) finished 5th in Heat 2 of the 100m equalling her PB in 15.3.  Evie Brooks tried out the Triple Jump for the first time and was rewarded with a win in 8m 76.  Evie also ran 2 track races in first time events finishing 3rd in the 300m in 48.8 and winning the 1500m in an excellent time of 5 min 37.6.

Sophie Henderson finished 5th in the 800m in 3 min 19.3 and over the higher and longer hurdle distance of 75m from 70m finished 4th in 15.9.  Kandi Austin continued her success from the Doncaster meeting by finishing 6th in the 200m in a new PB by a second in 32.6.  Kandi also ran the 1500m for the first time with a strong finish in 6 min 52.7 finishing in 2nd place and gave the Triple Jump ago finishing an excellent 2nd in 8m 03.

Under 13 Girls

New Age Group also for Adela Mills and Evie Kendrick. For the first time running over 100m there were 2 excellent runs with Adela finishing 2nd in Heat 2 in 15.4 and Evie 2nd in Heat 3 in 14.3.  Evie also ran the 800m for the first time finishing 6th in an excellent time of 3 min 14.1 and did the Long Jump finishing 9th in 2m 96 just outside her PB.  Adela ran the 200m for the first time finishing 4th in 33.2.

To finish off the excellent day of track and field the Under 15 Girls competed in the Under 15 4 x 100m (Evie, Millie, Sophie and Kandi) and all had a great run in an exciting relay finishing 3rd in 61.1 behind Goole Youth AC (58.6) and Kingston Upon Hull AC (59.1).
