It was heavy going at Louth’s Hubbards Hills for the fourth and final match in this season’s Lincolnshire Runner Cross Country League.

Hundreds of runners braved the undulating quagmire of a course for a thrilling Sunday afternoon of foot racing.

Official results are not published until later this week but the under-13 boys’ team of Jevon George-Jones, Caleb Stephenson and Kieran Byrne are well=placed to be crowned league champions in their age group.

Louth’s men, women and under-13 girls team of Hannah Reid, Isabelle Dhami and Beatrice Spendlove are also in contention for a top three finish.

Louth runners Adam Dalton and Mark Atkinson took first and second place in last Tuesday night’s Winter Prom 5k series at Cleethorpes in 17.30 and 17.50 respectively.

A superb run from 15-year-old James Larder (18.15) saw the youngster finish in a tightly fought sixth place and Louth AC’s Kerry Stainton (21.29) took victory in the women’s race.

The next key local fixtures are the New Year’s Day 10k in Cleethorpes and the Lincolnshire Cross Country County Championships on 4 January.

And for anyone looking to run off their Christmas dinner, there’s the Boxing Day fun run in Hubbards Hills – more details on the club’s website, www.louth-ac.org.uk.

Merry Christmas and happy New Year to all the club’s supporters, especially the volunteers who’ve had to brave the wind, cold and rain through training nights and race days over the past 12 months.
